Welcome sweet friends! Hubby and I just returned from a nice long relaxing weekend in Savannah. It's been awhile since he and I have been away, so we decided to spend the weekend at Ford Plantation and celebrate it's Homecomming weekend. (No...not football! hee! hee!) It's a yearly event when all the members from all over get together for the weekend and celebrate.
We've yet to build a home. It will be a LONG time before we do, because we are NOT close to retirement. tee! hee! However, we do enjoy getting away and renting a cottage and enjoying the amenities and outdoors which is FULL of natural wildlife.
Words really cant describe how beautiful the property is. The mammoth size live oak trees drapped in moss cover the entire property.
It's pretty interesting but all the oak trees have a number assigned to them. I guess it helps when maintaining them.
This is the main gate to the Main House which was once lived in by Henry Ford.
Random close shots I took.
Spanish moss.
These photos were taken standing outside the main house.
This is the gorgeous Main House where I will be hosting my event Petticoats & Parasols Plantation Art Event in April.
White tents will be set up on the back lawn where we can enjoy the outdoors and river views. Sooo excited!!!
The main house is like a B&B. It's has guest rooms upstairs that you can stay in, and the downstairs main dining room and study is used for events.
Friday morning while hubby played in the member golf tournament (which by the way...I MUST toot his horn!! HE WON!!!! Whoo-hoo!) I enjoyed having a yummy southern breakfast in the dining room.
Eggs, the BEST bacon and cheese grits in the world, and a southern biscut.
After breakfast I hopped on my bicycle for a nice morning ride (and to work off some of that fattening morning breakfast! LOL!) and took some pics of the property.
I rode over to the equestrian barn and said "Good Morning" to the horses.
Ford Plantation has a few cemeteries on the property which I personally think are SO cool.
The homes.....*SIGH* are all so beautiful and look like they step back in time.
Friday evening hubby and I attended the annual Oyster Roast. It's a fun casual evening set outside the clubhouse.
The lawn has long wooden tables set up with big ole buckets of Oysters ready to be shucked.
The only way I can eat a raw oyster is if it's on a saltine cracker with LOTS of cocktail sauce.
Saturday morning I was "up and at'em" and spent the day leisurely siteseeing in Savannah and a made a few stops to my FAVORITE places.
First on the stop was Back in the Day Bakery. I had to pay a visit to the rockin' Miss Cheryl!!!!
We chatted and caught up a bit and also discussed my Cupcake party/Vendor Fair details. WHOO-HOO!!! For those of you that are interested I am accepting vendor applications and will be selling tickets to the public as well.
I also bought one of her DE-LISH baby cakes!
Look who's artwork was hanging up in the bakery??? Jenny & Aarons!!!! LUUUUUUUUUVVVVVV!!!!!
For those of you that know Cheryl Im sure you will agree with me that she is one terrific lady!!! LOVES what she does, and never stops smiling and greeting her guest!
Next stop was @Home Vintage General to see my sweet friend Elizabeth Demos and take her to lunch.
Liz had her shop all decked out for Halloween and Fall. So charming and festive!
I have to give some SERIOUS kudos to Liz...she is an amazing talented lady! Not only does she run the most FABULOUS shop, she also has expanded her business and is now doing event design and styling. Just two weeks ago she had the awesome opportunity to help with Hope Wallace's wedding. So if you know of someone that needs a FABULOUS design consultant to help plan a wedding or an event Liz is your women!!! I just know she is on the fast track to becoming BIG! ;) Im also giddy because Liz will be a vendor at my event! WHOO-HOO!!!
Overall it was a fantastic weekend of R&R with hubby. Now that Im home it's a busy week of soccer, football, laundry, and Halloween! The kiddies are bouncing off the walls excited! Cant wait to share!
